Leo Vegas Casino Review

In the ultra-competitive world of UK casino sites, Leo Vegas Casino seemed to come from nowhere to leap to the top of the tree.

That distinctive branding – the smart man in the green suit (why green, we wonder?) – is now everywhere.

But Leo Vegas online casino wasn’t a traditional UK gambling name – like Ladbrokes, bet365, or Paddy Power – it was a Swedish company formed in 2011.

The site is beautifully designed and features hundreds of games, not just slots but also table games and instant wins. The company also hosts sports betting.

There’s a long story behind this site and a lot to cover, so let’s see whether you should join this friendly lion at Leo Vegas Casino.

Let’s find out more in this Leo Vegas Casino review!

Who Are Leo Vegas Casino?

Leo Vegas is actually called LeoVegas Gaming Ltd, which is itself a subsidiary of LeoVegas AB, a Swedish company. (AB just means Ltd in Sweden.)

The company was founded by Gustaf Hagman and Robin Ramm-Ericson. The breakthrough for LeoVegas was prioritising mobile players. Their belief that smartphones would go global and become a major force in internet use.

The company is now a major player in the European market; the most popular mobile casino on the continent, with nearly 1,000 employees. They win awards, and also make the news – not always for the right reasons.

Leo Vegas is part of LeoVentures

The company was first listed on the Swedish stock market in 2016, and the launch was something of a big deal. The company had made €83m in 2015, and its revenue and customer numbers were on a steady upward trend.

Whenever we look at a casino site we find some form of a corporate structure. Leo Vegas is no different: company HQ is in Stockholm; LeoVegas Gaming Ltd of Malta owns that brand; there’s also a tech division, Gears of Leo (Leo Vegas is unusual in developing its own games). The company also has offices in Poland, Italy and the UK.

The company’s main markets are in the UK, and Norway, Sweden, and Finland. They also operate in Denmark, Spain, Germany, and Italy, and you should expect the number of markets that LeoVegas operates in to increase. They already have sites aimed at the Chilean and Peruvian markets.

LeoVegas is also a sports betting firm. The company launched a sportsbook to coincide with the Euro 2016 championship.

The company’s history is one of the acquisitions. Among the companies LeoVegas has hoovered up, are Royal Panda, GameGrounds (a streaming service), Pixel.bet, and Rocket X.

The company has won too many awards to list them all individually here. We make the total in the low 20s at the moment.

Is it Legal for UK players to Play at LeoVegas?

It is completely legal for UK players to play at LeoVegas online casino.

You must never play at a casino that is not licensed by the UK Gambling Commission for UK players. Land on the website or click the app and you’ll see the logo for the UK Gambling Commission at the bottom of the front page.

LeoVegas online casino has licence number 39198, which is in the name of LeoVegas Gaming PLC, of Sliema in Malta. The company is licensed for remote bingo, casino, general betting, and pool betting.

The brand names listed for the LeoVegas are: “21.co.uk, betuk.com, bingostars.com, castlejackpot.co.uk, crownbingo.com, legs11.co.uk, mcasino.com, pinkcasino.co.uk, slotboss.co.uk, slotmob.com, slotto.co.uk, ukcasino.com, and www.leovegas.com.

The company also has a licence for three inactive bingo sites.

The company’s licence has been acted on though.

LeoVegas Casino was penalised in May 2018 for misleading advertising and not handling self-exclusions properly.

LeoVegas was fined £600,000. There is no doubt that it is not good to be sanctioned by the UK Gambling Commission. However, you shouldn’t let this cloud your view of the site as a whole. Hopefully, LeoVegas has now learned its lesson and its ads are better quality and it is dealing properly with self-exclusions. The black mark against its licence doesn’t suggest in any way that the company’s games aren’t fair – they wouldn’t have a licence at all if that were the case.

Is it Safe for UK Players to Play at Leo Vegas Casino?

LeoVegas is very obviously a legitimate player in the world of online casino sites. Surely not a scam!

You should always carry out checks on any site you use. You’re not a forensic cyber investigator (unless you are, in which case, apologies and thank you for reading!), but a few common-sense checks will keep you safe.

The licence is the first thing to check.

LeoVegas are licensed in the UK and also in Malta, Sweden, and elsewhere.

The site should also be of good quality. Leo Vegas is very obvious of good quality.

Safe gambling warnings are also a good sign. LeoVegas has the full set of logos on its front page, from BeGambleAware.org, GamCare, GameStop (the self-exclusion site), and LEOSafePlay, which is the company’s own safe gambling service offering a load of advice for players who feel like they might be having a problem with their gambling.

Fair Play at LeoVegas

We couldn’t find the logos for the testing services (the likes of iTech Labs) that you sometimes see on gambling sites at LeoVegas.

However, we have no doubt that the site’s games are all fair and tested as such. No certificates, no licences.

Leo Vegas Casino Bonus for New Players

Without welcome bonuses, we sometimes wonder if the online gambling world would fall over in the corner, wither and die – like Leeds United’s promotion hopes each season.

Probably not, but this is the biggest marketing device in the online casino world. They want you to play. Welcome bonuses do more than just tempt you to try a site though, they also tie you into a site for a while.

They do this with wagering restrictions (also called play-through). Wagering restrictions are a multiple of the amount of your first deposit (usually, sometimes it’s first deposit plus bonus, sometimes it’s just the bonus funds) that you will need to spend at the site before you can cash out money won with your welcome bonus cash.

We don’t have the time here to do full justice to the complexity of welcome bonus terms and conditions. We will say: none of them work to the player’s benefit. They are designed to get you to deposit money and to continue to play and spend at a site long after you’ve had a look around.

That doesn’t make them a “rip off” necessarily, but please bear in mind (as you should with every business offer you see) what the offer does for the person making it.

Welcome bonuses also change regularly and are sometimes only activated by going to a site from another site or with a particular code. Check out a few review sites to see you have the latest and the best deal.

Currently, there are three welcome bonuses at LeoVegas: a casino bonus, a live casino bonus, and a sports betting bonus.

Really you can take your pick of these, but once you’ve cashed in one you won’t be able to go back and pick up the others later.

The Leovegas live casino offer looks like this:

Unlock £100 Cash on Live Casino Games

Significant terms:
Full T&Cs apply
. New players only across two deposits. Cash rewards 7 days from registration to opt-in from Promotions page & each with 7 days wagering. Deposit £10, £25 or £50 & wager 75x. Only cash stakes on live games qualify & wagering contributions vary. 18+ BeGambleAware.org.

LeoVegas Promotions & Other Bonuses

A welcome bonus is designed to get you through the door and spending for a while, but a site that wants a customer to stick around for the long run needs to offer customers who do stick around something to stick around for.

LeoVegas offer a lot of promotions.

These will change, so you need to check in as you’re signing up to see what’s available.

When we looked at the site, the main feature was the site’s VIP programme, a loyalty scheme that we’ll look at later.

There are a lot of sportsbook promotions, linked to particular events.

The top-line slots promotion was a link with Big Time Gaming for the launch of a new slot: Who Wants to Be A Millionaire. But it’s not really a giveaway, just an exclusive launch.

And that’s really it, which isn’t all that much, to be honest.

Significant terms: Full T&Cs apply. Free spins – no deposit required & new players only. Claim within 3 days of registration & 3 day expiry. Free spins worth £0.10 each on Book of Dead, winnings paid as cash. Deposit offers available across any two deposits. Both expire 7 days after registration & have 7 days to wager once claimed. Deposit £10, £25 or £50+ & wager 35x for a cash reward. Only cash stakes qualify & wagering contributions vary. 5 free spins on Book of Dead with each qualifying deposit, 3 day expiry. BeGambleAware.org.

Leo Vegas Loyalty Scheme

The VIP Fantasy is a big part of the casino experience. The movie version of the casino tends to be the one behind the velvet drapes, not the pit full of thousands of identical slot machines. Online casinos are telling the same sort of story.

That means a VIP scheme will aim to make players feel special. This can be good for you. If you feel you have a genuine relationship with a site then that is much more likely to make you have a positive experience. It’s also the case that some of the extras that come with VIP programmes are worth having. But always ask that same question: what’s in it for them? VIP programmes like all other casino offers are designed to make you spend more time and money at a casino site. Make sure if you do it’s on your own terms and for your own enjoyment.

Almost all of the ongoing promotions at Leo Vegas are delivered via the VIP programme.

Your progress is mapped on a VIP Bar on your account screen. The more you spend, the further along you go. This is gamification, it turns a commercial transaction into a challenge, thus encouraging you to complete the challenge by spending more. You need to opt-in to the VIP programme.

There’s a monthly prize draw for everyone who does, with prizes including electronic gadgets (Apple products are mentioned), experiences and the like. Big prizes are awarded to one player from each level of the VIP ladder, which has eight rungs.

Other extras include exclusive events, account managers, better payment and withdrawal services, birthday rewards, bonuses, and the prize draw. It’s a decent offer.

LeoVegas Help and Support

The best help at a casino site is help you never need to call because the site does everything perfectly.

We look forward to the days when we report on such sites!

In the meantime a good set of contacts is essential.

At LeoVegas you can click to get to the Help Centre where you’ll find a sort of FAQs list. It’s not bad, though some of the answers are rather basic.

If you need more help – and quite a lot of the answers in the Help Centre tell you to get it – then you can click a live chat link.

There is also a 24/7 email address: support-gb@leovegas.com.

UK customers can also call this number: +44 0808 1699 799.

A UK phone number is considered the gold standard for help options so we have no criticism of these options.

Leo Vegas Banking

It is all about the money in the end.

LeoVegas are trusted and licensed, and they also have a good choice of trusted ways of giving them your money – and of them giving it back to you.

Please check these as you arrive at the site as sites do add new payment methods all the time. Also, be sure that the method you want to use is legal where you are and you are able to use it.

The logos on the front page have the usual suspects: MasterCard, Visa, PayPal, Apple Pay, Trustly, Neteller, Skrill, MuchBetter. We’ve also found POLI, Skrill, ECOCard, EntroPay, and ClickandBuy listed.

There are different withdrawal maximums for these payment methods.

You can withdraw to bank wire transfer, Neteller, Visa, Electron, Visa, POLi, and Skrill.

PayPal is quite a big deal. PayPal left the casino market for seven years until 2010 in order to remain squeaky clean in US legal terms while that country was undergoing a spasm in its odd gambling laws. They have since returned to the market, and are the most commonly used payment company on the Internet, with a reputation they need to protect. A partnership with them is a good sign.

Leo Vegas Games

LeoVegas is a mobile-first site, but it has a range of games to match any in the business on all platforms.

Leo Vegas games are arranged in a variety of ways: top games (the most popular titles), new games, must-fall jackpots, jackpots (these last two are both collections of progressives), slots, table games, and instant wins.

The top slots when we called in were Book of Dead, Starburst, Bonanza, LeoVegas Megaways, and Mega Moolah!

LeoVegas is unusual in having a large number of exclusive games, including titles it produces itself.

The developers offering their own titles include:

  • Playtech
  • Microgaming
  • NetEnt
  • Cryptologic (WagerLogic)
  • Play’n GO
  • Thunderkick
  • Betsoft
  • Nyx Interactive
  • Bally
  • IGT (WagerWorks)
  • WMS (Williams Interactive)
  • NextGen Gaming
  • Blueprint Gaming
  • iSoftBet
  • Genesis Gaming
  • Quickspin
  • Yggdrasil Gaming
  • Rabcat
  • 2 By 2 Gaming
  • Elk Studios
  • SG Gaming
  • Lightning Box
  • Odobo
  • Quickfire
  • Pragmatic Play
  • Evolution Gaming

LeoVegas Slots

The Top Games tab at LeoVegas covers both slots and casino games and this format is continued through the front page tiles.

The new games on offer on our visit were:

Opal Fruits, Ruby Casino, the Equalizer, 100 Joker Staxx, Inferno Star, Joker’s Jewels, Mighty Africa, and Crystal Land.

Must Fall jackpots is a list of progressives that are “due” to pay out. Progressive jackpots are the one type of slot game at which any sort of strategy might have some utility, but only in a very limited way. Progressives have a base game and a second game for big prizes. That second game may be regulated to pay out at regular intervals.

The Must Falls on our visit were Mystery Reels (£173,428); Gems Gone Wild (the same amount); Dragon’s Luck Power Reels (ditto); Arcade Bomb (ditto), and Diamond Jackpots (£1,180,760).

Those are some serious amounts of money.

Jackpot games were headed by Casino Hold’em Jumbo 7 (a table game), Mega Moolah, Mega Moolah Isis, mega Fortune, and Super Spinner Barx. In those five titles alone we counted around £10 million in prizes.

The slots tab listed: Wild Manta, Cleopatra, John Hunter and the Secrets of the Da Vinci’s Treasure, Dragon’s Luck, and Casino Win Spin.

LeoVegas Casino Games

The Leo Vegas Casino games are listed as Table Games.

We found 45 titles (these numbers are bound to change) divided between blackjacks, roulettes, baccarat (including punto banco), lucky wheels, Red Dog, and Poker (hold’em, Caribbean stud).

Games were provided by LeoVegas themselves, NetEnt, and the market’s current favourite developers, Evolution Gaming.

LeoVegas Live Casino

Live Casino games are the cutting edge of casinos these days. LeoVegas live casino delivers there’s on a separate site.

The Leo Vegas live casino games titles are divided between the most popular games, and separate tabs for roulette games, blackjack, baccarat, card games, fast play games, and the VIP section. There is also a Chambre Séparée, which is a fancy French way of saying “high stakes” rooms.

There’s a great quality of game here, and a big variety of titles, all of your popular variations are covered, and there are a load of exclusive titles.

LeoVegas Mobile Casino

LeoVegas is a mobile casino so it’s rather redundant to point out that you can play it on mobiles. In fact, it’s bigger news that they have a very good desktop site too.

You can download iOS and Android versions of the LeoVegas app to play instantly from your phone’s home screen. Or you can browse to the site. The vast majority of those awards we mentioned at the top of the review were for mobile services, and since 2012 LeoVegas mobile casino has been leading the way in mobile casino play.

The Leo Vegas app is an award winner too, and on iPhone comes with Touch ID for extra speed and security.

Summary

LeoVegas is an award-winning casino and it’s easy to see why. With 700 and more games from the best providers in the business – a huge variety of them too – no player is going to get bored on this site.

The depth goes beyond slots to a really fantastic casino and live casino games too, with excellent dealers.

Exclusivity is a big draw at LeoVegas online casino, there are many games here that you can’t play anywhere else.

Everything you need to see at a good quality online casino site is in place: security, licensing, safety, auditing, great help, a good set of payment methods, and excellent promotions.

The extras are nice too. The loyalty scheme offers real value, and the site looks and functions fantastically well.

If you haven’t already signed up with Leo Vegas online casino you’re probably in the minority of online casino players. With a great welcome offer at the moment, now might be the time to get along and see what you’re missing out on.
